Have you hugged your friendly track bugler today?  They’re a vital part of the live racing experience, and should you be fortunate enough to live near or visit a track smart enough to include one on the payroll, pause by the betting window for a moment long enough to really listen, and give proper props.

The good ones will mix it up a little.  My first live racing experience took place on opening day at Tampa Bay Downs; it was mid- December, and the bugler trumpeted the first race in the usual fashion… and then broke into “Jingle Bells.”  Well played, sir.
