The NTRA’s Incredibly Cheerful Christmas Card Letter
Well, here’s your Merry Freakin’ Christmas from National Thoroughbred Racing Association president Alex Waldrop: “I have heard from lots of people, both inside and outside of racing, who are saying how glad they will be when 2008 is behind us. It was a year that might be described as the perfect storm in horse racing - where industry safety and integrity questions collided with the worst national economy in nearly a century to produce a year of seemingly endless negative stories.” Wheeee!
Waldrop, poor guy, is in a difficult position here, after all. How can he pretend all is faboo when it’s not? But he does focus on the positive, cheering the fact that Curlin was actually raced in his fourth year and the growing bans on the use of anabolic steriods. All things which should have taken place anyway; it’s sad that the industry is in such condition that fans are forced to fete owners who make the now-unusual decision to not retire otherwise sound colts to the breeding shed.
Also on the the Happy Times List: “Our Web 2.0 strategy kicked into high gear this year just as millions of horse racing fans engaged with our sport as never before via the Internet and other social networking sites.” PARTY.
Merry Christmas from Along The Rails!
