Snow on the Mardi Gras Beads

Published by marybethellis at 12:32 am under As It Happens Edit This

The Fair Grounds in New Orleans closed on Thursday — due to, of all things, snow.

The Big Easy hasn’t seen snow since 2004, and here’s enough to stop the ponies in their tracks.  The jockeys, trainers, and mounts may have gotten a snow day, but fear not:  All those missed races will be made up.  Beginning on December 18 and ending on December 22, extra races will be added each day to make for an eleven - race card.  Have fun handicapping those; I’m not sure there’s a general adjustment factor for “snow day.”

And don’t worry about the horses; they were warm enough.  You don’t buy or train an investment like a race horse without providing an extra blanket or two.
