Remember how Jerry Bailey was all, “Yep, once and out”?  Seems that the Great Eight all got off their horses with a hearty “Again!”  And Chris “Ivy” McCarron?  He’s available.  Angel Cordero Jr. explained his last-place finish by explaining that “I just didn’t foul anyone.”

Sandy Hawley was charming and humble in his flying-dismount victory, which came from his first time in a starting gate in a decade.  He attested to going to the whip at the end “to look like I was doing something.”  The finish gives him a nice, even 6,450 wins.  And all that after a line of six hundred fans lined up for autographs in the California sun.
