Holding On

Published by marybethellis at 12:42 am under Fun With Jockeys Edit This

ESPN interviewed Gary Stevens as he prepares for the Living Legends race at Santa Anita. Jerry Bailey says he’s one and out (”You’ll never see this again. I will tell you that for sure, because I won’t be involved again.”  Well, then) and it looks like Stevens is leaning the same direction:  He referred to the race as a “one-time event.”

It’s the first time he’ll race in three years, and although he he’s close to the sport as a commentator for NBC, he says he hasn’t been riding.

But Stevens also sounds a bit more excited about the prospect of riding again; although he had to drop fifteen pounds, he seems to be looking forward to the challenge, describing seeing the overnight as “kinda neat”and telling The Bloodhorse that he’s holding onto the thing, placing it next to his first as a jockey.  Aw!
