Shafted Horse Spotlight

Published by marybethellis at 12:24 am under Just Thinking Edit This

There’s been a lot of discussion in this space about Big Brown and Curlin, two runners who have truly earned the ink poured at their hooves.  But of the top one-tenth of the top one percent are the only ones who get any ESPN face time, and I’d like to throw some humble cyber-love at the bulk of Thoroughbreds who enter and run, enter and claim, enter and train without a speck of attention.

Meet Cocoa Beach Rocket, who deserves to be petted lots and lots because he has an awesome name.  For those of you outside the Central Florida loop, Cocoa Beach is situated quite near the Kennedy Space Center; its proximity and array of bars make it primo launch viewing real estate.

He’s five years old, and has earned over $44,000.  Four times he’s been in the winner circle, and he’s hit the board in six other races.  Tell him I said hi if you cross roads.
