…But not too first, either.

Curlin was beaten by Red Rocks on Saturday, and, besides the fact that the winner has a flat-out fabulous name, he beat the new turfie badly enough to make The Feral Herd wonder if Curlin has The Stuff for The Grass. The “late kick” that made so many ooooh and aaaah at the end of the Dubai Cup wasn’t there. Of course, this has led to a great deal of “Well, CLEARLY he SUCKS and should be RETIRED or RETURNED TO THE DIRT” snuffling.

For the love of Seabiscuit, give the kid a chance. He didn’t have the best break in the world, and, I mean, it’s not like Red Rocks sucks. (Heh.) He won himself a Breeders’ Cup race, and ain’t no shame to come in second to that. You stay classy, Curlin!
